A Niche Does Not Have To Be A Job Title

Say "niche" to an advisor and the response is almost always a profession. Dentists. Business Owners. Engineers. Doctors.

That is one option. BUT, it is not the only one, and for a lot of advisors it is not even the best one.

The purpose of a niche is a shared problem set. Occupation is just one way to find that.

Get Creative:
1. Shared values. Financial independence, entrepreneurship, a specific giving philosophy. People organized around a belief have remarkably similar planning questions.
2. Life stage or mindset. First-generation wealth builders. Career changers. People navigating a sudden liquidity event. The problems are specific regardless of what anyone does for work.
3. Genuine shared interest. When you actually care about the thing your clients care about, the relationship starts warmer and stays that way. That is very hard to manufacture and very easy to feel.

What group of people do you understand better than almost any other advisor and why?

That answer is usually closer to your niche than any professional category.
