Every firm eventually adapts or ceases to exist. The only variable is whether you did it deliberately or got forced into it.
Three things worth examining now, before the pressure arrives:
1. Your fee justification. The standard 1% AUM fee will be put under pressure moving forward if your main value proposition is investment returns, stock picker, or insurance. Holistic financial planning solving real painpoints for clients will be critical to justify fees.
2. What the relationship actually delivers. Coordination, proactive guidance, and next level conversations will become ever more important to differentiate in a saturated advisor market.
3. Where the reclaimed time goes. AI can free up hours, and those hours quietly get absorbed by more of the same busywork. The advisors who intentionally redirect that time toward client relationships will separate fast.
Adapting early is uncomfortable. Adapting late is expensive. Which one are you setting yourself up for?
